Diskusi bersama Frontyard Library (@frontyardorg) kemarin malam. Ruang kolektif yang mengelola perpustakaan, program residensi, kebun belakang, dan berupaya mengembangkan sistem nilai ekonomi dengan landasan prinsip permaculture dan teknologi terbuka (open source). Bagaimana komunitas telah mengembangkan berbagai siasat dan teknologi untuk permasalahan2 “besar” seperti kedaulatan pangan, tantangan iklim, dsb.

Mereka menemukan banyak hal menarik yang dapat dipelajari dari perpustakaan dan taman2 baca di Jawa.

Yang sangat menonjol adalah kepekaan dan siasat menghadapi kerentanan lingkungan iklim tropis. Misal: penggunaan rempah2 seperti merica, cengkeh, dsb di sela2 buku untuk mengurangi kelembapan, apek dan serangga. Kemudian, penggunaan teknologi #opensource seperti SLiMS untuk katalog koleksi, yang menariknya tersedia dalam banyak bahasa (Indonesia, Inggris, Arab, Jerman, Rusia, Spanyol dsb), dan karenanya memperluas potensi penggunaan di luar batasan pengguna yang mampu berbahasa Inggris saja. Istilah akademiknya: dekolonisasi teknologi dan sistem pengarsipan, gitu. Catatan perjalanan mereka pasang online di indoaustdesignfutures.org (@indoaustdesignfutures).

Mereka juga bercerita proses mereka mengkatalog ephemera, atau printilan, seperti zine, pamflet, brosur dsb. Waktu itu mereka diminta mengisi satu festival.
